SUMMARY:Internal Controls for Small Nonprofit Organizations (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Please join Forefront and BDO Nonprofit & Grantmaker Advisory for this virtual training and learn about key concepts and best practices to strengthen internal controls in small and growing organizations. \nNonprofits with limited paid staff and/or inherited systems and workflows often struggle to embed strong internal controls in financial management processes. This workshop provides an overview of the foundational components of operational excellence—effective teams\, integrated technology systems\, and efficient workflow— while highlighting opportunities for improved processes and policies which minimize the potential for financial fraud or errors. \nKey focus areas for this workshop will include: \n\nComponents of operational efficiency\nDeveloping a culture of collaboration and accountability\nEnsuring proper controls are in place in key financial processes\n\nIntended Audience: Anyone interested in an introductory understanding of nonprofit operations and systems\, particularly for managing government funding. This training is aimed primarily at those who have little to no experience with government funding. \nSpeakers: \nGretchen Upholt\, Managing Director\, BDO Nonprofit & Grantmaker Advisory Gretchen serves as a lead for several key product areas including training and finance technology consulting\, and as a representative of BDO to nonprofits and funders in the Midwest region. In addition to her leadership in the practice\, she splits her time between playing an active role as trainer\, coach\, and curriculum developer for cohort and other training initiatives and as consultant to nonprofit clients across the country\, helping nonprofit leaders improve their financial management skills and processes. An experienced staff and program manager\, Gretchen is skilled in training\, capacity building\, research\, and program and volunteer management. \nMelissa Cameron\, Experienced Manager\, BDO Nonprofit & Grantmaker Advisory Melissa specializes in delivering BDO Nonprofit & Grantmaker Advisory’s trainings for nonprofits and funders. With several years of experience in nonprofit arts administration roles (with Emerald City Theatre\, the League of Chicago Theatres and American Theater Company)\, she leads content development and delivery standards for our operations training curriculum. Melissa has a passion for data and maximizing the power of Excel and puts that knowledge and experience to work building dashboards\, annual budget templates\, and multi-year financial models for BDO clients. \nSpanish interpretation available by request.
