SUMMARY:Strada Education Network Research Briefing
DESCRIPTION:Janet Salm from Strada Institute for the Future of Work will present findings from “The New Geography of Skills” and share a framework for taking an ecosystem approach to connecting adults with the learning they need for the jobs they want.  Many of the key tenets of the framework for adults apply just as well to recent high school and college graduates as they navigate pathways to a meaningful career. \nDeeply entrenched inequities in education and career training have left too many adults without a path toward meaningful work. The economic fallout from COVID-19 has laid bare the consequences of these inequities. Already\, data indicate that\, as in past economic crises\, workers without a formal postsecondary degree will be slowest to regain employment. If we are to achieve a more equitable economic recovery\, we must create more opportunities for skills-based training and hiring. A New Learning Ecosystem\, with skills at the center\, will open more inclusive pathways to career advancement for the most vulnerable adults. This session will explore the role of skills-based training and hiring within workforce development\, discuss the essential components of a New Learning Ecosystem\, and provide insights into the data and innovations that can empower more adults to find and keep good jobs.

SUMMARY:Cyber Security
DESCRIPTION:The cybersecurity threats organizations are facing today have been increasingly more complex than in the past. Given the complex technology landscape\, organizations struggle to effectively manage technology risks with the limited cybersecurity skillsets and resources available to them.  The mindset around cybersecurity at organizations has shifted from “if” a cyber event will occur to “when” it will happen\, and they are struggling to effectively prepare to respond to when that incident occurs. \nThe goal of this session will be to discuss current cybersecurity risks and threats organizations are facing and how an effective cyber resilience program can help manage these risks. We will discuss the key components of a cyber resilience program including preventative\, detective\, response\, and recover controls. We will discuss pragmatic strategies used by organizations to improve their cybersecurity posture. \nGuest Speaker: Mike Del Giudice\, Principal\, Crowe Consulting\, Crowe LLP \n

SUMMARY:Advocacy and Grantmaking – Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Join Forefront and the Alliance for Justice’s Bolder Advocacy program for the first of a two-part advocacy training for foundations with an introduction from the MacArthur Foundation. \nThe coronavirus pandemic and resulting economic crisis has thrown enormous challenges in front of the nonprofit sector. Our communities are facing unprecedented needs with record unemployment\, school closures\, evictions\, and lack of access to medical care. \nIn response\, organizations and communities are pushing for additional stimulus funding\, changes in the charitable deduction\, release of incarcerated people from prisons and immigrant detention facilities\, moratoriums on evictions\, and so much more. In addition\, with the national elections only months away\, groups are implementing their traditional voter and candidate engagement work\, but also fighting to ensure fair and safe elections and voting methods. Grantmakers can and should support these efforts. \nThis 90-minute training for foundations will address why advocacy is so important\, how to distinguish advocacy from lobbying\, and ways in which foundations—both private and public—can fund the advocacy work of their grantees. In addition to walking through the definitions of lobbying\, we will discuss how the rules differ between private and public foundations\, and best practices for how to legally and efficiently fund grantees that advocate.

SUMMARY:Advocacy and Grantmaking – Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Join Forefront and the Alliance for Justice’s Bolder Advocacy program for the second of a two-part advocacy training for foundations with an introduction from the MacArthur Foundation.  The coronavirus pandemic and resulting economic crisis has thrown enormous challenges in front of the nonprofit sector. Grantmakers can and should support these efforts. \nThis 90-minute training for grantmakers will address how foundations can best build the advocacy capacity of their grantees and use their own voices as advocates. During this session\, we will explore how private and community foundations can advocate themselves and highlight the many roles foundations can play along the advocacy continuum. We will also discuss how foundations—and their staff and trustees—can interact with candidates for public office\, support civic engagement activities like election protection and voter registration and GOTV drives\, and share issue-specific information.

SUMMARY:Solidarity & Resilience: The Role of Collaborative Leadership
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic is a public health crisis that exacerbates our social\, political\, and economic challenges\, and that disproportionately affects communities who are already vulnerable.
