SUMMARY:Demystifying Participatory Grantmaking
DESCRIPTION:Four panelists will share their various approaches to and experiences with participatory grantmaking.\n\n\nRegistration is limited to Grantmakers. \nParticipatory Grantmaking (PG) can be an effective and far more equitable process for allocating grant dollars in philanthropy. PG engages people with lived experiences and greater proximity to the issues a foundation seeks to address. Four panelists will share their various approaches to and experiences with participatory grantmaking. The panelists will offer varying perspectives on WHY and HOW they use PG\, what they’ve learned and gained from the process\, as well as challenges associated with the approach. Participants will receive available materials such as timelines\, workplans\, policies\, suggested reading\, and rubrics that can be adapted for use by their foundations. \nAll foundation staff and board members who seek a richer decision-making process that aims to shift power outside of philanthropic institutions and rely instead on the advice of external voices in recommending grants are warmly welcome! This program is co-sponsored by Forefront’s Family Foundations Committee and the Conant Family Foundation. \n \nPanelists: \nGeoffrey Banks\, Senior Program Officer\, MacArthur Foundation \nMarcia Festen\, Director\, The Arts Work Fund \nLeslie Ramyk\, Executive Director\, Conant Family Foundation \nAnalía Rodríguez\, Leadership Investment Program Officer\, The Field Foundation of Illinois
