Please join Chicago Public Schools and Kids First Chicago for a special briefing on the latest available data on all PK-12 students and schools served by CPS.

ABOUT THE ANALYSIS:

Released in September of 2018, CPS’s inaugural Annual Regional Analysis (ARA) was celebrated as an accessible, comprehensive, and critical source of the district and school performance data. Designed to provide community leaders, policymakers, parents, and educators with the information they need to make informed decisions about Chicago’s public schools, the newly updated ARA 2018-19 is expanded to support more equity-focused priorities.

Kids First Chicago (K1C) helped CPS design the first and second editions of the ARA, which is comprised of publicly available data, organized in a digestible format that includes maps, graphs, and key performance metrics. The ARA is organized around four key education dimensions by geographic region:

  1. Quality—HOW MANY LEVEL 1+/1 SEATS ARE THERE?
  2. Quantity—HOW MANY SEATS ARE THERE FOR THE STUDENT POPULATION?
  3. Choice—ARE STUDENTS CHOOSING SCHOOLS IN THEIR REGION?
  4. Variety—DO STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO THE VARIETY OF SCHOOLS AND PROGRAMS OFFERED?

Enhancements to the new ARA 2018-19 include:

  • More comprehensive information about all students & schools served within CPS (Pre-K and Options/alternative students)
  • The inclusion of average commute time (in addition to distance traveled)
  • Improved student choice data (new GoCPS high school application data)
  • More programmatic variety data
