Join the IL Count Me In 2020 coalition webinar on Wednesday, 12/12 to hear from Steven Choi, the Executive Director of The New York Immigration Coalition, as he speaks about NY Counts—their Census 2020 work. NY Counts 2020 is a broad-based, statewide coalition composed of racial, ethnic, immigrant, religious, health, education, labor, housing, social services, and business groups working in partnership with state and local government officials. Their aim is to ensure that New Yorkers across the state - particularly marginalized communities in hard-to-count districts – can fully maximize their participation in the 2020 Census.

It is now more important than ever to keep the Census nonpartisan to ensure a fair, accurate, and inclusive count. Forefront is committed to also ensuring a coordinated Census count in Illinois through its Democracy Initiative (DI). For more information about the program, please reach out to Yoselyn Ovalle, DI Associate Manager or Anita Banerji, DI Director.

About the presenter

Steve Choi is currently the Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition, an umbrella advocacy and policy coalition of nearly 200 member groups representing New York State’s immigrant communities. From 2009 to 2013, Mr. Choi was the Executive Director of the MinKwon Center for Community Action, which organizes, advocates for, educates, and serves Korean and Asian community members in New York. Prior to that, Mr. Choi was a Staff Attorney and the founding Director of the Korean Workers Project at the Asian American Legal Defense & Education Fund, the only project on the East Coast focused on providing free legal services to low-wage Korean immigrants.
