The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) will present research that reveals persistent gaps in access and completion at six public flagship universities in the Great Lakes region. Trends in enrollment and completion at Indiana University – Bloomington, Ohio State University – Main Campus, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, and University of Wisconsin – Madison reveal that too few low-income students and students of color can access and persist at these institutions. The presentation will include a discussion of institutional policies and practices that impact opportunities available to low-income students and students of color, including early decision admissions, legacy preferences, and need-based financial aid.
