SUMMARY:Supporting New Arrivals to Chicago with Young Children
DESCRIPTION:Register Here! \n  \nSince August 2022\, Chicago has welcomed over 35\,000 individuals seeking asylum who have arrived from the southern border. Many families are arriving with young children — over 1\,800 children under five as of November 2023\, a number that has continued to grow. After the trauma of their journey to Chicago\, families with young children face a number of unique needs — including mental health support\, childcare to seek employment and respite from the challenging environment in shelters. Early childhood programs – including centers\, schools and home visiting – can play a key role in promoting healthy child development\, supporting school readiness and accessing the resources that families need. This conversation will focus on the challenges that families face in accessing resources\, the barriers that early childhood programs experience in serving newly arrived families and the opportunities for philanthropy to play a meaningful role in the short and long-term. \n  \nPanelists \nCristina De La Rosa\, Executive Director\, Erie Neighborhood House \nAlicia Castañeda Rodriguez\, Sr. Director of Family Support and Services\, Carole Robertson Center for Learning \nAshley Nazarak\, VP of Program Scaling and Dissemination\, Carole Robertson Center for Learning \nBeatriz Ponce de Leon\, Deputy Mayor of Immigrant\, Migrant\, and Refugee Rights\, Chicago Mayor’s Office \nMariana Osoria\, First Deputy of Human Services\, Chicago Mayor’s Office \nVeronica Castro\, Deputy Director\, ICIRR \nModerator \nBryan Stokes II\, Director\, Education Portfolio\, Robert R. SUMMARY:Optimizing QuickBooks for Nonprofit Organizations (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Please join Forefront and BDO Nonprofit & Grantmaker Advisory for this virtual training and walk away with practical steps in configuring QuickBooks to support financial management best practices for nonprofit organizations. \nInexpensive\, user-friendly\, and widely used across the nonprofit sector\, QuickBooks is often the best choice for small organizations with limited resources to invest in accounting software. However\, originally designed for companies in the for-profit realm\, QuickBooks has limitations when it comes to tracking and reporting on restricted donations and grants. \nOver the course of working with many organizations to build and strengthen financial management systems\, BDO has refined some key QuickBooks customizations and “workarounds” to help facilitate nonprofit accounting in this for-profit system. In this webinar\, we will provide an overview of how to structure the system\, as well as examples of how to execute key transactions. \nNote that this is not a 101 “How to use QuickBooks” training. It is focused on structuring and designing QuickBooks and is intended for participants who are already using or somewhat comfortable with QuickBooks. \nSpecific topics will include: \n\nStructuring the Chart of Accounts\nConfiguring the Class and Customer functions to track programs and funders\nTracking temporarily restricted revenue\, including how to process releases from restriction\n\nIntended Audience: Anyone interested in QuickBooks customizations for nonprofit organizations. Note that this is not a 101 “How to use QuickBooks” training. It is focused on structuring and designing QuickBooks for nonprofit organizations and is intended for participants who are already using or somewhat comfortable with QuickBooks. \nSpeaker: \nGretchen Upholt\, Managing Director\, BDO Nonprofit & Grantmaker Advisory Gretchen serves as a lead for several key product areas including training and finance technology consulting\, and as a representative of BDO to nonprofits and funders in the Midwest region. In addition to her leadership in the practice\, she splits her time between playing an active role as trainer\, coach\, and curriculum developer for cohort and other training initiatives and as consultant to nonprofit clients across the country\, helping nonprofit leaders improve their financial management skills and processes. An experienced staff and program manager\, Gretchen is skilled in training\, capacity building\, research\, and program and volunteer management. \nREGISTER HERE
