Census Public Hearing Documents: IL Count Me In 2020 Statewide Advocacy Coalition

An RFP released by the Illinois Secretary of State's office in October of 2018 for nonprofit census engagement did not specifically acknowledge census hard-to-count communities. In response, Forefront and several coalition partners - Common Cause IL, MALDEF, ICIRR, Asian-Americans Advancing Justice - Chicago, and the Chicago Urban League - submitted a formal letter addressing our concerns to the Secretary of State’s office. Forefront then asked coalition members to sign a letter of request asking the Secretary of State’s office to hold a public hearing about the grant application and the application process. Additionally, 40 coalition members signed a letter requesting a public hearing regarding the RFP's language, at which 14 different community organizations testified on the importance of a fair and accurate census count in 2020. View both letters and the list of speakers at the public hearing below.
