Forefront Radio: Creating a More Diverse Board
“It’s not only about what people look like, or where they come from, but their lived experience and the new ideas they bring.” – Ric Estrada, President + CEO of Metropolitan Family Services
Diversity is an essential factor in creating strong nonprofits. The benefits of diverse perspectives on a nonprofit's board are well documented, but creating and implementing strategies to diversify your organization's leadership can be challenging. This past February, Forefront and Exelon hosted a panel discussion on Building a More Diverse Nonprofit Board. We were delighted to convene an impressive group of panelists who generated a robust and insightful conversation.
In this episode of Forefront Radio, we’re continuing this important discussion. Our panelists have been kind enough to join us via phone to cover some of the questions from attendees that we weren’t able to answer during the program. The panelists include:
• Maria Wynne, CEO of Leadership Greater Chicago
• Lester N. Coney, Executive Vice President at Mesirow Financial and Life Trustee at The Goodman Theatre
• Ric Estrada, President + CEO of Metropolitan Family Services
• Steve Solomon, Vice President, Corporate Relations, Exelon (Moderator)
The panelists offer insights and specific tools they use in diversifying their organizations’ boards. They also suggest resources for nonprofits that are looking to reap the benefits of including the viewpoints, expertise and sensibilities of including diverse leadership on their boards.
