Forefront Announces Participating Agencies in New Civic Engagement Initiative
Forefront is pleased to announce that eight organizations have been chosen to participate in our newest strategic initiative: promoting civic engagement. In partnership with Nonprofit VOTE, a national organization committed to bringing voter registration and civic engagement to nonprofits throughout the country, Forefront will provide resources and assistance to our new partners across Illinois.
Participating organizations receive a mini-grant of $1,000. They will commit to registering 250 individuals, attend trainings and launch an event for National Voter Registration Day in September. By November 4, Election Day, Forefront partners’ efforts will provide opportunities for their community members to easily register to vote, locate their polling place, and learn more about their rights as voters.
Congratulations to our partner organizations:
Jane Addams Senior Caucus (Chicago)
Indo-American Center (Chicago)
YWCA Canton (Canton)
YWCA Lake County (Gurnee)
Faith Coalition for the Common Good (Springfield)
Citizen Advocacy Center (Elmhurst)
PODER (Chicago)
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago/EZRA (Chicago)
Nonprofits play a crucial role in empowering their communities. When nonprofits engage the communities we serve to vote, voter participation increases. Bringing civic engagement to more nonprofits across the state will strengthen our communities and encourage more residents to be involved in decisions affecting their families. Illinois is home to nearly 14,000 charitable nonprofits that employ 523,000 workers, serving millions of clients each year.
