August is Black Philanthropy Month

August 1, 2016

August is Black Philanthropy Month! Created in 2011 by the Pan-African Women's Philanthropy Network as a world-wide celebration of African-descent giving, BPM seeks to "inform, involve, inspire, and invest in Black philanthropic leadership to strengthen African-American and African-descent giving."

Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office signed a proclamation today (click here to read the proclamation in full) announcing Chicago's observation of Black Philanthropy Month and encouraging all Chicagoans to recognize the vital role generosity plays in ensuring a healthy, safe and prosperous community.

Follow the hashtag #BPM2016 (through August 31) to keep up with this year's celebration of Black philanthropy! To keep up with BPM the rest of the year, follow #BPM365. For more information on Black Philanthropy Month, click here.
