Guest Post: Woke Up Black: A Born-and-Raised-in-Chicago Documentary Screening, Oct 24 at the Chicago Cultural Center

MovietrailerWoke Up Black, a 2011 documentary by filmmaker, activist, consultant and Donors Forum member Mary F. Morten, follows the lives of five Black youth in Chicago for two years.

There will be a public screening of the film on Wednesday, October 24, at 6 p.m. at the Chicago Cultural Center, at 78 E. Washington St., in the Claudia Cassidy Theater on the 2nd Floor. The screening is free, but please register in advance here. This is one downtown film event you don’t want to miss. Before the film, there will be a brief reception with light refreshments, and afterward, a question-and-answer session with director Mary F. Morten and some of the cast members, too!

About the film

Since the film’s release, it has been touring the country, screening at film festivals, colleges, and community groups from San Diego, CA to Madison, WI to Pittsburgh, PA. The film has also been broadcast twice on WTTW in Chicago.
