Nonprofit Lobbying and Legislative Update
January 27 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am
Forefront and The Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence (NICNE) invite you to attend this free online program where they will review lobbying rules at the federal, state, and local levels and learn about recent changes in Illinois, learn more about the difference between lobbying and advocacy, and learn how and when to register (or not) as a lobbying entity. Hear an update on the status of the Audit Threshold Bill (SB172/HB5814) intended to reduce financial and administrative burden for full financial audits for the smallest nonprofits in Illinois (Fact Sheet). This session will help you understand what to expect in 2023 and beyond.
Join Forefront’s policy team to determine how lobbying rules in Illinois might apply to the work of your organization. Review:
- Advocacy vs. Lobbying
- Lobbying basics at the Federal, State and local levels
- Changes that went into effect January 1, 2022
- Implications for registration and reporting
- Key takeaways for nonprofit organizations
This briefing and Q&A are presented by NICNE and facilitated by Forefront’s Holly Ambuehl, Director of Policy and Government Affairs, and Alec Lopata, Policy Coordinator. Forefront will also provide updates about its new policy platform, legislative priorities in 2023 and tell you how to stay informed.
