The Executive Director (ED) of Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois (MOWNEI) serves as the primary voice and face of the organization’s operations and communications. As MOWNEI prepares to welcome a new ED, it does so with a commitment to advancing its five-decade mission: fostering health and contributing to individual well-being and independence by delivering nutritious meals, medically prescribed diets, and supportive services to the homebound, elderly, disabled, and those temporarily unable to care for their nutritional needs. The ED reports to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for executing all aspects of the organization’s mission. Success in this role requires a passionate and adept communicator and storyteller who can drive the visibility, sustainability, and impact of MOWNEI. Strengthening operational management, fundraising, and program outcomes will be among the Executive Director’s top priorities. The ED must demonstrate exceptional financial acumen, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and sound fiscal management practices. The ED will cultivate a healthy, collaborative organizational culture that values staff and volunteer contributions and prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusion. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development and Communications, the Development Manager plays a critical role in supporting the organization's fundraising efforts, with a particular focus on cultivating and stewarding individual donors. This position is responsible managing and implementing donor engagement strategies and special events, supporting board and staff donor cultivation and retention efforts, and serving as the development team's point person for tracking giving and giving trends. In 2025, Illinois Humanities is celebrating its 50th anniversary; donor engagement around the anniversary will provide an especially meaningful opportunity for long-time supporters. Strong candidates will have 4-6 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, possess strong communication and relationship-building skills, and be passionate about being part of a dynamic team committed to fundraising excellence in service to Illinois Humanities' mission.
